La Biblioteca de Volpelleres ha sido ideada para alojar espacios que actúen como dinamizador social y cultural atendiendo nuevas demandas y proponiendo nuevos servicios a ciudadanos que se interrelacionan en un entorno tecnificado. Quedan lejos las bibliotecas-colección.
La �Miquel Batllori� ha sido la primera biblioteca catalana en acoger un laboratorio tecnológico:
el Library Living Lab (L3). Un espacio diseñado para que los usuarios participen en el desarrollo de nuevas formas de interacción con los libros y la cultura.
El Living Lab se ofrece como un nuevo servicio junto a aquellos alojados tradicionalmente en las bibliotecas de la red de la Diputació de Barcelona. Nacido de la iniciativa ciudadana y conducido por el Centre de Visió per Computador de la Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, el L3 ejemplifica una forma de participación ciudadana que no excluye el papel de las instituciones (Diputació, Ajuntament y Universitat) y que se propone abierta a las empresas interesadas en desarrollar aplicaciones o productos innovadores.
La implantación del nuevo servicio implicó a todos los agentes del proyecto (programadores, bibliotecarios, arquitectos�) en la reflexión sobre las características del espacio en donde alojarlo y las infraestructuras con que equiparlo. Esta reflexión se extendió a la forma como dicho espacio debía relacionarse con el resto de servicios de la biblioteca y al modo de fortalecer las características permanentes de los espacios en entornos cambiantes.

The Library in Volpelleres has been designed to host spaces which promote and inspire social and cultural interconnections attending to the requests, and suggesting new services to the people who interrelate in a technified environment; far from those collection-libraries.
The Library �Miquel Batllori� has been the first Catalan library to host a technological laboratory:
the Library Living Lab (L3); a space designed so that users can participate in the development of new forms of interaction with books and culture. The Living Lab is opened up as a new service along with those traditionally offered in the Diputació de Barcelona net of libraries. Driven from a community initiative and ran by the Centre de Visió per Computador (Computer Vision Centre)- Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona- the L3 is an example of a way of citizen participation that does not exclude the role of the institutions (Diputació, Ajuntament and Universitat), and it is open to companies which are interested in developing applications or innovative products.
The implementation of the new service involved all the project agents (programmers, librarians, architects�) in the thinking about the characteristics of the space where to host it and about the infrastructure needed to equip it. This reflection expanded on the way in which that space should interact with the rest of the library services, and on how to boost the permanent characteristics of the spaces in changing environments.
