This article looks at the work of photonics researcher Marin Soljačić of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology who won the magazine's award for Trends in Business, Policy and Research. The electronic gadgets used in 2007 are all great as long as the batteries last, but the scientist hopes to change that with the technology he calls WiTricity which would deliver wireless electricity to keep cellphones and other connective devices working without batteries.
