  • This article reports on the discovery of the oldest known carnivorous fungus which has been found in 100-million-year-old amber. It appears the fungus lassoed its worm prey with sticky loops. The amber was from southwestern France and showed the fungus had branched filaments with small rings. Modern carnivorous fungi have constricting rings and other projections to trap food.
