  • Resumen
    • The article discusses the best way to prevent weapons-grade uranium from entering the U.S. The authors describe as unreliable the detection tools, called portal monitors, used at ports and other border crossings. The article focuses in particular on highly enriched uranium (HEU) hidden inside shipping containers. Other devices called active detectors might be better, but are years away and are quite expensive. The authors suggest other methods for the U.S. government to handle the problem. INSETS: RADIATION COMPARED;ACTIVE DETECTION;BETTER PLAN.
