The article discusses the audio engineering behind the restoration of a live 1949 wire recording of folk singer Woody Guthrie, for which a team led by mathematician Kevin M. Short and sound engineer Jamie R. Howarth won a Grammy Award for Best Historical Album. The process Howarth developed to restore and digitize the recording is discussed.
