Every year, in March, the most important conference for italian librarians takes place in Milan. It’s a mix composed by a scientific main conference “The open library. Techniques and strategies for sharing” (this was the theme in 2017), and by a large series of satellite meetings, exhibitions and workshops that deepen some aspects of the main issue. The Dossier here published explains the results of some of these activities. The fil rouge of the entire conference was the idea that the open library is transversal, convergent, inclusive and capable to exploit the technological opportunities to realize an astonishing social project. Some activities focused on how the open philosophy represents the paradigm for contemporary library services and for new participation, learning and research models, regarding in particular open data and the Open Access movement. Some other workshops looked at the open library considering above all its role as a tool for social inclusion and accessibility.
