Mother-son incest appears in “He Was Cursed Because of Her Love,” a folksong harmonized by Juan Vázquez (1500-1560). This is the only known example of old Hispanic traditional lyrics that has incest as a theme, and its differences with the rest of the corpus are remarkable. These differences can be explained by two factors: an influence from other folkloric genres –especially incantations– and the manipulation of traditional texts by a cultivated author, probably Vázquez.
