    Les traumatismes crâniens, relativement fréquents en pratique vétérinaire, requièrent une prise en charge rapide et agressive. La connassance de la physiologie d'un cerveau sain et des modifications dues au traumatisme crânien permet comprendre les phénomènes mis en jeu et d'adpater les traitements. L'évaluation clinique initiale et son évolution sont primordiales dans la prise en charge des animaux traumatisés crâniens, notamment pour ajuster la prise en charge. Cette évolution est aussi importante dans le cadre du pronostic, puisque, actuellement, en médecine vétérinaire, peu d'éléments objectifs permettent d'évaluer ce dernier, et notamment le pronostic fonctionnel à long terme, pourtant important pour les propriètaires.

    Head injuries are relatively common in veterinary practice and require rapid and aggressive management. Knowledge of the physiology of a healthy brain and the changes that occur due to head trauma allow and understanding of the phenomena involved and thus treatments to be tailored for the individual case. The initial clinical evaluation and its evolution are essential in the care of the animals with head injury, and, in particular, to adjust treatment. The evolution is also important for the prognosis, since, currently, in veterinary medicine, there is little objective evidence to assess the latter, including the long-term functional outcome, which is yet mportant for owners.
