  • A news brief is presented, summarizing a report in the May 16, 2008 issue of "Science" on the feeding practices of shorebirds called phalaropes. The birds swim in small, fast circles to create a vortex that draws small aquatic creatures to the surface, then they peck at the surface with their long, thin beaks to pull tiny droplets of water into their mouths.
