This article discusses the use of computerized sensors attached to ad-hoc wireless networks to control storm runoff in the sewers of South Bend, Indiana. The company EmNet will use these sensors to monitor sewage flow, and try to limit backflow. The engineers working on this project believe that it might be the largest permanent industrial wireless communications network in the world.
