This article discusses recent scientific discoveries relating to migraine headaches. Research into the neurobiology of migraines is presented to support the belief that this condition has a neurological rather than a vascular origin. The fact that the symptoms of migraine aura resemble spreading cortical depression, cortical activity resulting in hallucinations experienced before an epileptic seizure, is noted.
