This article discusses how thermal transfer processes work to print photographs at digital printmaking kiosks. The development photographs using thermal dye transfers entails the modulation of heat to activate different quantities of dye from different cartridges. The use of similar technologies to power personal digital printmaking devices from Polaroid and Zinc Imaging are described.
