The article focuses on the negative environmental impact of nitrogen trifluoride, a potent greenhouse gas which is used in the manufacture of flat panel televisions. A discussion of a lack of coverage which the gas received in the 1997 Kyoto Protocol because of its then limited use is presented. A comparison of the environmental impact of nitrogen trifluoride and carbon dioxide is presented.
