  • This article discusses efforts to explain the various factors contributing to the extinction of species. Experiments in the mathematical ecology of extinction are described as part of an effort to determine the risks faced by species with declining populations. Issues relating to random variations in the sexual balance between generations and other potentially severe issues facing a declining population are explored.
