  • Resumen
    • "IOSCO's thoughts and plans in ensuring transparency in indices will be published in mid-2014 and will affect how exchanges such as The Baltic Exchange will operate," says King.

As part of the Baltic's continual cycle of renewal of its indices, the exchange is updating its key Capesize index from recognising 172,000 dwt vessels to one that includes the more modern and popular 180,000 dwt vessel class. "This change will better reflect current markets," says King.

[Drewry] forecasts that demand for multipurpose shipping will grow at an average annual rate of 5% over the coming years. "We are only expecting modest growth in 2014, as competition from other shipping sectors continues to eat away at the market share. But we expect the sector's market share to recover through 2015/16."
