La gárgola es un magnífico reflejo de la libertad creativa del artista y de su ilimitada imaginación. Básicamente, las gárgolas se pueden clasificar en tres tipos de figuras: humanos, animales y monstruos. Sobre el origen simbólico de las figuras de las gárgolas, ha habido muchas conjeturas al respecto. La teoría que prevalece es la idea de gárgola como drôlerie que, al igual que adorna los textos sagrados, adorna nuestras catedrales, y siempre con figuras vinculadas a los factores históricos, sociales, morales o psicológicos que formaban parte del imaginario de la Edad Media.

The gargoyle is a wonderful reflection of the artist's creative freedom and of his unlimited imagination. Gargoyles can basically be classified into three types of figures: humans, animals and monsters. About the symbolic origin of the gargoyle figures, there has been much conjecture in this respect. The prevailing theory is the idea of the gargoyle as a drôlerie that decorates our cathedrals in the same way as it does a sacred text with figures linked to the historic, social, moral and psychological aspects of the medieval imaginary.
