Resumen de Da água – entre a terra e o ar – em narrativas visuais para a infância

  The aim of this study is to reflect on Portuguese wordless picturebooks, an emerging artistic and publishing format in the Portuguese context. The analysis presented follows recent studies of picturebooks (SALISBURY; STYLES, 2012; SERAFINI, 2014;

  KÜMMERLING-MEIBAUER, 2015), particularly those related to visual storytelling (ARIZPE, 2014; BECKETT, 2014; BOSH, 2014). Sophisticated, sometimes requiring the establishment of intertextual connections, wordless picturebooks call upon a special kind of reader – an attentive one –, able to draw inferences, interpret implicit suggestions, reconstruct sequences from spatial-temporal relations, interpret detais, or detect the characters’ mood; that is, a reader who can invent the text by himself/herself, and thus become a sort of co-narrator. After selecting and analysing a corpus connected with the theme of water, by creators such as Bernardo Carvalho, Marta Monteiro and João Fazenda, this paper aims at characterizing such picturebooks taking into account the formal and graphic solutions they present.

  Neste estudo, pretende-se refletir sobre os livros-álbum sem texto de autores portugueses, uma modalidade artística e editorial emergente na edição nacional. A análise apresentada filia-se nos estudos mais recentes sobre o livro-álbum (Salisbury e Styles, 2012; Serafini, 2014; Kümmerling-Meibauer, 2015), em particular nos dedicados à narrativa visual, também designada como livro sem texto ou livro de imagens (Arizpe, 2014; Beckett, 2014; Bosh, 2014). De natureza sofisticada e reclamando, por vezes, a realização de conexões intertextuais, os livros-álbum sem texto exigem que o leitor, com um olhar atento e perspicaz, realize inferências, interprete sugestões implícitas, reconstrua sequências a partir das relações espácio-temporais, interprete pormenores ou descubra estados de espírito das personagens, ou seja, que invente ele mesmo o/um texto, tornando-se conarrador. A partir da seleção e da análise de um corpus com ligação ao tema da água, designadamente da autoria de Bernardo Carvalho, Marta Monteiro e João Fazenda, procura-se proceder à caracterização destes volumes, tendo em conta as soluções formais e gráficas que apresentam.
