O uso de tecnologias digitais da informação e comunicação em um curso de inglês para fins específicos na área jurídica

    This study is part of a doctoral research and presents activities with online dictionaries designed to help the development of reading comprehension on a course of English for Specific Purposes addressed to legal practitioners. For data collection were used questionnaires to identify the students’ perceptions about the use of digital technologies to assist in reading. The results revealed that, according to the participants’ perception online dictionaries were effective in helping the understanding of legal texts written in English. However, it was revealed that students underuse this digital resource and the activities implemented during the course enabled the familiarization and greater knowledge of these resources. This study showed that online dictionaries, helped expand both the knowledge of the legal language in English and knowledge of the English language in general. According to the students, with the use of these resources the reading process was more dynamic and contributed to make them more independent since enabled them to solve their difficulties in reading and vocabulary. This research aims to contribute to the English for Specific Purposes area, mainly with respect to legal English area and aims to bring contributions to the research on digital technologies applied to the development of understanding written texts in English.

    Apoiada na Abordagem Línguas para Fins Específicos, a discussão apresentada neste artigo, recortada de pesquisa de doutorado, destaca atividades que usam recursos digitais, elaboradas para o curso de inglês para profissionais da área jurídica, Inglês Instrumental: leitura de textos jurídicos, desenvolvido pelo Grupo Abordagem Instrumental e Ensino-Aprendizagem de Línguas em Contextos Diversos – GEALIN. Esse curso vem sendo ministrado na Coordenadoria Geral de Especialização, Aperfeiçoamento e Extensão – COGEAE / PUCSP desde 2006, tendo sido redesenhado para inclusão de atividades que recorrem a recursos tecnológicos, como dicionários online. Dados da pesquisa foram obtidos por meio de questionários e entrevistas visando identificar a percepção dos alunos quanto ao seu desempenho nas atividades de caráter digital e ao seu progresso no desenvolvimento da leitura e na aquisição de vocabulário. Resultados revelam leitura mais dinâmica a partir do uso do dicionário online, ferramenta considerada pelos alunos de grande importância na expansão de vocabulário técnico-jurídico.
