Resumen de Selma cuida dos outros: o cuidado de si em Dançando no Escuro

This article aims to find traces of the greek notion of “care for the self” (epiméleia heautoû, in Plato and via Michel Foucault) analyzing Selma’s trajectory in the film Dancer in the Dark, by Lars von Trier. The intention is to build an alternative to the discussions that connect this filmmaker to the subject of “guilt”, seeking in Selma’s processes of subjectivity responses to the impasse she had experienced. The “care for the self” would determine Selma’s existence, and guilt would merely be an accessory of origin.

Este artigo procura encontrar indícios da noção grega de “cuidado de si” (a epiméleia heautoû, em Platão e por intermédio de Michel Foucault) na trajetória da personagem Selma do filme Dançando no Escuro (2000), de Lars von Trier. Pretende-se, assim, construir uma alternativa às leituras que conectam este cineasta ao tema da “culpa”, buscando nos processos de subjetivação de Selma as respostas para os impasses vividos por ela. O “cuidado de si” determinaria o modo de existência de Selma, sendo a culpa apenas um acessório de origem.
