K+S's potash and magnesium business unit revenues fell by 19% to EUR507.4m, while earnings decreased 36% to EUR134.4m owing to the slow recovery in potash prices at the end of 2013 and lower sales volumes y-o-y. Revenue for potassium chloride products (KCl), or potash, fell by 35.3% to U201.2m, although fertiliser specialities, such as potassium sulphate, revenues increased by 4.3% to U238.2m.
The average net realised sales price of potash in Q1 2014 was $350/tonne, compared with $460/tonne in the first quarter of 2013 and $373/tonne in Q4 2013.
Mosaic expects volumes for both phosphate and potash to continue to increase throughout the year, estimating phosphate volumes for Q2 2014 at between 3.1m to 3.4m tonnes, compared with 2.9m the previous year.
