"This is an important step in our plan to bring on additional new capacity to meet customers' rapidly growing needs for high quality, Northern White frac sand in all of the major shale basins in the US," Bryan Shinn, CEO, said.
According to Shinn, as well as giving US Silica a foothold in "one of the fastest growing basins in the country", the acquisition will also bolster the company's existing logistics and operational capabilities.
Qing Yang, director of petroleum and natural gas at NEA, said China is developing shale gas wells in the Sichuan Basin and Yangtze River areas, adding that the chance to study and learn about the US shale experience was "a very rare opportunity."
