  • Resumen
    • With a haul truck, for example, combining operational technology (OT) data beaming from that truck's connected sensors with information technology (IT) can answer such fundamental, business-critical questions as: "What is the economic impact of one cylinder on that truck not working?"; "Would it cost more to fix it or replace it?"; "Should we fix or replace now, or wait?"; and, "What does this flow of information say about our entire maintenance strategy?" "It's pretty simple," says John Tish, Cliffs' director of IT/OT mining services. "Commodity prices are going down and expenses are going up. The only way we can remain successful and competitive is by bringing together in real time vast amounts of analysed, asset-related data to reduce our operational and maintenance costs while providing greater reliability and production output." "That speaks to some of the technology efficiencies that are also coming in." [Shawn Lyndon] told IM. "I'm sure there's something unexpected round the corner but I really believe, and I hope, that this is the way we're now going to do business in the mining industry and in other industries."
