Este artigo discute os eventos mais significativos do primeiro ano da Revolução Russa sob a perspectiva do influente diário norte-americano The New York Times. Procuraremos enfatizar como o discurso jornalístico, a partir do estudo da seleção de notícias e da linha editorial do periódico sobre o processo revolucionário russo, contribuiu para difundir determinadas imagens e representações sobre os bolcheviques, os sovietes e os socialistas em geral. O propósito é compreender as atitudes do diário diante do processo revolucionário russo, observando o papel da imprensa na veiculação de informações, ideias, e visões de mundo, com a capacidade, assim, de influenciar na construção de consensos e na legitimação de políticas do Estado.

This article intends to debate the most significant events during the first year of the Russian Revolution under the perspective of The New York Times. We aim to highlight how the journalistic discourse, from the newspaper editorial background and the selecting of news about the revolutionary process, contributes to diffuse certain images and representations concerning to the Bolsheviks, the soviets, and the socialists in general. This study offers an analysis of the newspaper's attitude towards the Russian revolutionary process, observing the role of the press in the dissemination of information, ideas and worldviews, therefore with the capacity to act in order to build consensus and to legitimate State policies.
