  In this paper, we aim analyze the political and religious scene of the captaincy of Maranhão in the mid eighteenth century, with an emphasis on educational character changes processed after the expulsion of the Jesuits in the region, paying attention primarily to the issues surrounding the bookstore of the Jesuits and their relation to hierarchical reordering and new emerging educational paradigms. We use, therefore, an interesting set document that pointed to jurisdictional conflicts, disputes of various interests among different social groups and the emergence of new civilizational guidelines that emerged with the ideals of the Pombaline period.

  Objetivamos, nesse texto, analisar o cenário político-religioso da capitania do Maranhão em meados do século XVIII, com enfoque nas mudanças de cunho educacional processadas após a expulsão da Companhia de Jesus da região, atentando, principalmente, para as questões em torno da livraria dos jesuítas e sua relação com reordenações hierárquicas e os novos paradigmas educacionais emergentes. Utilizaremos, para tanto, um interessante conjunto documental que apontava para os conflitos jurisdicionais, as disputas de interesses diversos entre os diferentes grupos sociais e o surgimento de novas diretrizes civilizacionais que surgiram com as ideais do período pombalino.
