The objective of this paper is to analyze three of the Rio Vermelho floods in the Cidade de Goiás, relating them to the historical context of the city: decline in gold mining (1782); expressive ruralization (1839), and received the title of World Heritage of UNESCO (2001). These three floods in addition to their physical size can be analyzed as a hermeneutical event, making it possible to exploit the symbolic dimension of the representations made by the inhabitants in each of these moments.
