"It's not a case of one graphene fits all," Chris Spacie, chief technology officer at UK-based graphene company, Haydale, said.
According to Elena Polyakova, chief operating officer of US-based Graphene 3D Labs, which is developing 3D printing using graphene for products including simple circuits and electrodes for batteries, graphene's properties are physically inferior to other materials such as silver in some applications. However, in these instances, graphene often has a cost advantage because of the relatively small amount of material required.
Polyakova said that there was a lot of misinformation and "fantasy" about what graphene technology is capable of and joined Spacie and [Tom Eldridge] in urging those interested in the science to ignore the hype and think realistically about graphene's potential to improve existing technologies such as polymers and composites.
