  • The gas cleaning technology supplied by Outotec to Votorantim's zinc refinery in Peru will enable the company to both reduce its gas emissions and produce a higher quality sulphuric acid by-product. Kasia Patel "Mining and metallurgical operations have to comply with the Decreto Supremo 003-2008 Minam De Estandares De Calidad Del Aire. The air quality standard for sulphur dioxide (SO[subscript]2 ) implemented in the supreme decrete is 20 mg/m[superscript]3 but still in revision while valid concentration is 80 mg/m3," Kimmo Kontola, head of Outotec Americas region, told IM.

    SO[subscript]2 gas emissions from the zinc roasting circuits are processed in sulphuric acid plants and, according to Outotec, its system will both reduce SO[subscript]2 emissions and improve the quality of sulphuric acid through the removal of impurities.
