La enseñanza del español a hablantes de herencia en inmersión parcial y total: factores eficaces del aprendizaje en aulas heterogéneas

    En este trabajo abordamos la problemática del alumnado hablante de herencia en las aulas de español como segunda lengua (L2) y como lengua extranjera (ELE). La consideración de las especificidades de este alumnado en inmersión parcial y en los programas de inmersión total nos ha llevado a profundizar en el funcionamiento de las aulas heterogéneas y en las necesidades de este alumnado. Para ello hemos revisado los avatares históricos del español en Estados Unidos, las diversidades de la comunidad hispana y los modelos de enseñanza bilingüe. Mediante un análisis cualitativo, hemos comprobado las necesidades lingüísticas de este colectivo, las ventajas de las aulas heterogéneas y los beneficios del aprendizaje en inmersión total. Nuestro propósito final es orientar al profesorado de español para que asuma mejor el reto de enseñar a este complejo colectivo.

    In this study we address the problems of heritage speaker students in the Spanish-as-a-second-language (L2) and Spanish-as-a-foreign-language (ELE) classroom. Considering the specificities of these students in partial immersion and in total immersion programmes has led us to examine the functioning of heterogeneous classrooms and the needs of these students. In order to do so, we have reviewed the historical vicissitudes of Spanish in the United States, the diversities of the Hispanic community and the models of bilingual teaching. Through a qualitative analysis, we have tested the linguistic necessities of this group, the advantages of heterogeneous classrooms and the benefits of learning through total immersion. Our final purpose is to orient teachers of Spanish so that they can better take on the challenge of teaching this complex group.
