Resumen de Huntsman to close three US plants in 2015

  • This is part of Huntsman's previously announced plan to reduce TiO[subscript]2 capacity in Europe by 100,000 tonnes - 13% of the company's total capacity - for a yearly saving of $35m, and to reduce its workforce by 900 people for a $130m annual saving.

Huntsman received final go-ahead for the purchase of Rockwood's pigments and additives business for $4bn in October last year, and a company spokesperson confirmed to IM in December that around 75% of the announced reductions would come from the newly acquired business.

"This initial step in restructuring our colour pigments business will enable us to be more competitive, respond more quickly to market conditions and better serve our global customer base. We anticipate we can further optimise this business by identifying additional synergies over time," Jan Buberl, vice president of sales and marketing for Huntsman's colour pigment division, said.
