Resumen de Evaluación del efecto de imidacloprid para el combate de Dalbulus maidis (Hemiptera Cicadellidae) en dos híbridos de maíz, en el valle del río Portoviejo

  La presente investigación tuvo como objetivo controlar al Dalbulus maidis (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae), insecto vector de la enfermedad conocida como cinta roja del maíz, empleando el  insecticida imidacloprid en el tratamiento a la semilla antes de la siembra (Gaucho 3g./kg.) y luego (Confidor 0.5 y 1.0 ml/L) en drench en los híbridos de maíz INIAP H-552 e INIAP H-601.  El trabajo se realizó durante la época seca de 2005 en la localidad de Lodana (Santa Ana, Manabí). En total se conformaron 12 tratamientos con cuatro repeticiones en un diseño de bloques completos al azar 2 x 3 x 2. Los resultados determinaron que ninguno de los tratamientos tuvo efectos sobre las poblaciones de D. maidis, sin embargo la incidencia de la cinta roja fue más baja en el híbrido H-601 y en el factor semilla tratada. El factor drench no presentó efectos sobre ninguna de las variables estudiadas.

  The objective of this study was to evaluate the control of Dalbulus maidis (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae), an insect responsible of the disease known as cinta roja, by applying the insecticide imidacloprid on the maize hybrids INIAP H-522 and INIAP H-601, as a pre-planting treatment (Gaucho 3g./kg.) on seeds and then as a drench (Confidor 0.5 y 1.0 ml/L). The study was carried out in Lodana (Santa Ana, Manabí) during the dry season in 2005.

  In total, 12 treatments with four replicates were set up within a randomized complete block designed (2 x 3 x 2). The experiments indicated that none of the treatments had effects on the D. maidis populations; however the incidence of cinta roja was lower in the INIAP H-601 hybrid and in the seeds treated with the insecticide.

  The drench did not show any effects on any of the variables of the study.
