  • Prompted by the observation that the seventeenth-century unity of time is made to function in such a way as to override the theatrical audience's perception of time, this contribution pursues the implications dramatic time and the potential representation of the present have in respect of poetics and the politics of sovereignty. The guiding question is whether the imagination of time as a homogenous continuum, formally implemented by the unity of time, was deliberately and effectively meant to preclude the representation and reflection of a temporality of the present even before its discovery in the eighteenth centur
