    This article presents a brief description of the political thought of Spinoza, whose philosophical doctrine, forged in the historical background of the Netherlands of the seventeenth century and its theological and political disputations, is proposed to undermine the authority of the human passions that have turned the reality complex and unlimited warful. In his two tractates, Spinoza dealt with theology and politics aiming to remove the vitality of the religious illusions falsely based on the Bible that, by their influence on the politicians, allowed the existence of governments oppressive to the concerned people, and to advocate for government ways rationally structured where the religion and the State could be reciprocally complementary without losing energy in struggles to the power, this is, without failing to apply the Word of God – love of God and of the neighbour – in each religious and governmental act.

    Este artigo apresenta uma breve descrição do pensamento político de Spinoza, cuja doutrina filosófica, que tem como pano de fundo histórico os Países Baixos do século XVII e suas disputas teológicas e políticas, se propõe a minar a autoridade das paixões humanas que tornavam a realidade complexa e interminavelmente belicosa. Em seus dois tratados, Spinoza aborda a teologia e a política, de modo a retirar a vitalidade das ilusões religiosas falsamente baseadas na Bíblia e que, influenciando os políticos, permitia que existissem governos opressores aos próprios súditos, e a defender formas de governo racionalmente estruturadas, em que a religião e o Estado se complementam mutuamente sem perder energia com lutas pelo poder, ou seja, sem deixar de aplicar a Palavra de Deus – amor a Deus e ao próximo – em cada ato religioso e governamental.
