  La biotecnología suministra modernización en la cadena productiva y el desarrollo de productos de alto valor añadido, constituyéndola en un instrumento científico cuya aplicación además de representar un beneficio para el consumidor y un adelanto de la ciencia, representa un gran negocio que promueven las empresas para obtener un interés económico en particular. Este negocio requiere no solo de habilidad y estrategia, sino grandes inversiones en investigación, y una permanente búsqueda de ampliar los conocimientos. De acuerdo a la importancia que implica esta tecnología, se hace necesario la promoción de la misma dentro del conjunto de las pequeñas y medianas empresas (Pymes) del sector productivo, con el fin potencializar sus mercados.
