La historiografía moderna que trata la Segunda Sofistica ha sostenido variadas explicaciones acerca del comportamiento de la intelectualidad griega del siglo II d. C. Es discutible las posibles motivaciones y diversas reacciones frente a la dominación romana; considerando por ejemplo desde las reflexiones tradicionales como las de M. RostovtzefL hasta las controvertidas como las de Paul Veyne y las reacciones de Maurice Sartre frente a este último, han favorecido al examen del helenismo (cultura griega) especialmente en la época de los Antoninos. Lo que pretendemos es realizar una breve reflexión en tomo a estos tres autores y sus principales propuestas historiográficas muy disimiles entre si.

The modern historiography that deals with the Second Sophist has maintained varied explanations on the behavior of the Greek intellectuality of century II d. C. Possible motivations and reactions to Roman domination are debatable, considering for example from the traditional reflections such as those of M. Rostovtzeff, to those controversial like those of Paul Veyne and the reactions of Maurice Sartre to the latter, have Favored to the examination of Hellenism (Greek culture) especially in the time of Antoninos. What we are hying to do is to make a brief reflection on these three authors and their main historiographical proposals very dissimilar to each other.
