Saft wins Li-ion contract for Faroe Island wind farm; Siemens taps Molycorp for turbine magnet rare earths while investment in wind energy continues to grow.
First came the news that French battery manufacturer Saft will be providing its Intensium Max containerised lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery system to Denmark's 12 megawatt (MW) Husahagi wind farm on the Faroe Islands archipelago.
Paris-headquartered Saft is partnering with wind turbine specialist ENERCON to deliver a 2.3 MW energy storage system (ESS) that will smooth out energy fluctuations between Faroe Islands' wind farm and the archipelago's power grid.
