O tema da emancipação e a escravidão no Brasil: por um olhar semiótico

    Neste artigo investigamos as formas semióticas presentes em alguns discursos que tratam da escravidão entre os séculos XVI e XIX no território do que hoje conhecemos como o Brasil. A emancipação, tomada como tema semiótico, é investigada a partir da categoria modal do poder. A oposição narrativa entre relações de transitividade (fazer-ser) e factitividade (fazer-fazer) desencadeia reflexões a respeito do status atribuído aos indivíduos escravizados naquele âmbito. O debate se dá a partir de textos jurídicos, acadêmicos e policiais produzidos em diferentes contextos geográficos e históricos.

    This paper aims to analyse the semiotic forms underlying some discourses on slavery between the 16th and the 19th centuries in the territory nowadays known as Brazil. Considered as a semiotic theme, emancipation is analysed under the point of view of the modal category of “being-able-to” (pouvoir). The narrative oposition between transitive and factitive relations leads to reflexions about the status of enslaved individuals in this context. The discussion will be presented based on juridical, academic and police investigation texts written in different geographic and historical contexts.
