El artículo plantea que la palabra «metafísica» no existe en griego antiguo, y, que, por lo tanto, no se encuentra en el vocabulario de Aristóteles. La identificación de la metafísica medieval o moderna (entendida de forma muy diversa) con contenidos de la filosofía aristotélica es, pues, muy problemática. Por otro lado, Aristóteles nunca escribe que el motor inmóvil, o cualquiera otra denominación de su Dios, sea «inmaterial», término que no fue acuñado por el estagirita y que no aparece hasta Plutarco. Un posible sinónimo de éste (de estirpe platónica), «incorpóreo», no se aplica nunca, explícitamente, al acto puro ni al denominado intelecto activo. En resumidas cuentas, y a la luz de estos ejemplos terminológicos y conceptuales, ¿dónde está el límite que separa la filosofía de Aristóteles de la de sus intérpretes?

«Incorporeal and immaterial in Aristotle». The article argues that the word «metaphysics» does not exist in ancient Greek, and, therefore, is not part of the vocabulary of Aristotle. For this reason, the identification of the medieval or modern metaphysics with the contents of the Aristotelian philosophy is very problematic. On the other hand, Aristotle never wrote that the unmoved mover, his God, had an immaterial nature. This term, «immaterial», was not coined by him and will not appear until Plutarch. A possible synonym for this term (used by Plato), «incorporeal», does not apply never, explicitly, to the pure act or the active intellect. In summary, taking into account these terminological and conceptual examples, where is the boundary that separates to Aristotle’s philosophy from that of his interpreters
