  • Among the British Neolithic henge monuments, Stonehenge is unique, in particular as a stone monument located in the centre of an earthwork. There are many hypotheses about the possible function of this central building, but it is still not clear why it was built nor what its original design was like. This article considers the possibility that Stonehenge was constructed as a roofed temple.
