    In this work it is intended to analyze the members’ salaries of the General Council of the Portuguese Inquisition, in the period between the years 1640 and 1773. This Council was the main body of the Inquisition hierarchy and it included the general inquisitor, the deputies, one secretary and four officials. The aim is to answer to the question: how was the General Council supported? Where did the income that permitted to pay the salaries and all the extras that these individuals received come from? This analysis will allow us to understand in what extent the income from the seizure of belongings was also used to maintain the inquisitorial staff and when it lacked which other financial sources were drawn on. This work will still allow to identify the accounts that each figure of the Council received and in what moments.

    Neste trabalho, pretende-se analisar os salários dos elementos que compunham o Conselho Geral do Santo Ofício português, no período compreendido entre os anos de 1640 e 1773. Este Conselho era o órgão principal da hierarquia da Inquisição e dele faziam parte o inquisidor-geral, os deputados, um secretário, e quatro oficiais. Pretende-se responder à questão: como era financiado o Conselho Geral? Donde vinham as receitas que permitiam pagar os salários e todos os suplementos que estes indivíduos recebiam? Esta análise permitirá perceber em que medida as receitas obtidas com o confisco de bens eram utilizadas, também, para a manutenção dos quadros humanos inquisitoriais e, na sua ausência, a que outras fontes de financiamento se recorria. Este trabalho permitirá, ainda, identificar os valores que cada uma das figuras do Conselho recebia e em que momentos.
