Affectionate, this instruction seldom proved, at Savonarola's campfire, the supremacy of the fear against love, as announced by Machiavelli. In France, Fénelon will be one of the forerunners of this narrative, creating in the Dialogues on eloquence (1761) a mirror of preachers used in Brazil by Friar Francisco do Monte Alverne, in his Oratorial Works (1858). Late reflection of the Old Regime, the resentment gives rise to a history of feelings within the framework of culture in which the legitimacy and longevity of fear is inscribed in modern preaching, and ascertain the importance of this feeling for the constitution of History and society in the fold of modernity.

Afetiva, essa instrução não raras vezes comprovou, na fogueira de Savonarola, a supremacia do temor ao amor, tal como anunciado por Maquiavel. Na França, Fénelon será um dos precursores dessa narrativa criando, nos Diálogos sobre a eloquência (1761), um espelho de pregadores utilizado no Brasil por frei Francisco do Monte Alverne, em suas Obras Oratórias (1858). Reflexo tardio do Antigo Regime, o ressentimento dá lugar a uma história dos sentimentos no âmbito da cultura em que se inscreve a legitimidade e a longevidade do medo na prédica moderna e se averigua a importância desse sentimento para a constituição da História e da sociedade na dobra da modernidade.
