Resumen de El topónimo Bailén (Baylén) o aproximación a la localización de Baécula

  Estudio lingüístico y toponímico de Bailén (Baylén) a través de sus distintas variantes (Baikol, Baicula, Ibaicula, Valianum, Baécula, Vallianum, Baylén, Bailén) y lenguas en contacto (íbero, vasco, latín, mozárabe, castellano) y sus diversos signi#cados propuestos, teniendo en cuenta toda la investigación previa sobre este asunto.

  Desde el punto de vista meramente lingüístico, se analiza la evolución fonética de tales nombres propios de lugar y se esboza una aproximación a la localización geográ#ca e hidrográ#ca de la villa iberorromana de Baécula, próxima a Cástulo.

  Este trabajo de investigación toponímica supone un espaldarazo a la localización general y comúnmente aceptada de este enclave (Baécula, Bailén –Jaén–) en la historiografía tradicional española y europea.

  Linguistic and toponymic study of Bailén (Baylén) through its different variations (Baikol, Baicula, Ibaicula, Valianum, Baécula, Vallianum, Baylén, Bailén) and languages in contact (Iberian, Basque, Latin, Mozarabic, Castilian) and its diverse meanings proposed, taking into account all the previous investigation carried out about this topic.

  From a merely linguistic point of view, the phonetic evolution of those place proper nouns is analised and an approximation to the geographic and hydrographic location of the Iberian-roman villa of Baécula, close to Cástulo is outlined too.

  This work of toponymic investigation serves as recognition of the general and commonly accepted location of this enclave (Baécula, Bailén –Jaén–) in the traditional Spanish and European historiography.
