Entre tradiciones y nuevas prácticas: la celebración de los quince años de mujeres en Quito, Ecuador

    Este artículo presenta los resultados de la investigación realizada en Quito, Ecuador, sobre la celebración de los quince años como práctica cultural de mujeres. Se constituyó a partir de la indagación sobre: tradiciones, ritos y rituales que se desarrollan con relación a esta fiesta. Además, se empleó una metodología mixta, bajo la aplicación de encuestas dirigidas a mujeres a partir de los quince años de edad en adelante y la aplicación de una entrevista a profundidad a un experto sociólogo. Uno de los principales hallazgos es que el 67% de las mujeres encuestadas afirman que en su familia aún se celebra los quince años como una tradición, pues lo consideran un paso importante de niña a mujer. Pese a que esta celebración es considerada como tradicional y conservadora, esta práctica ha cambiado paulatinamente. En consecuencia, se identificó que en la actualidad las adolescentes que están por cumplir quince años optan por otro tipo de celebraciones informales o viajes marcando nuevas tendencias.

    This article shows results of an investigation that took place in Quito, Ecuador, in relation of the celebration of the fifteen years as a cultural practice in women life. It was built from the inquiry on traditions, rites and rituals that come along with this feast. A mixed me-thodology was employed under the application of surveys addressing to women from fifteen years and up who lived the experience of that celebration. It was useful the realization of a deep interview with an ex-pert in sociology to establish a tour of how the Quito society has built that celebration and find contribu-tions to analyze the 3 survey data. Taking in account the main results, it is relevant the fact that 67% of the women surveyed insure that it is still present that tradition in their families, in fact, it is an important step from girl to woman. That’s why this tradition is so alive with rituals like the religious celebration along with various rites such as changing shoes, wearing a pink dress, etc. Although the celebration is viewed as traditional and conservative, changes have been affecting it through the years. Consequently, it is rec-ognized now that teenagers around fifteen prefer informal celebrations or travels as the new ten-dencies
