El presente artículo analiza el papel jugado por el diario económico The Wall Street Journal en el tenso debate político y mediático que precedió a la aprobación del TLCAN en el Congreso de los Estados Unidos. El objetivo de estas páginas es mostrar la intensa campaña a favor de la firma del tratado de libre comercio que se llevó a cabo desde el diario y analizar la imagen que se proyectó del vecino México, poniendo de relieve la complejidad y ambigüedad de dicha imagen, diseñada siempre sirviendo a los intereses del medio de comunicación emisor.
The article studies the role played by The Wall Street Journal during the tense political and media debate preceding the passing of NAFTA inthe US Congress. The aim of this piece is to show the intense campaign launched by the newspaper to favor the voting and to study the image of Mexico created to that end, highlighting the complexity and ambiguity of said image, shaped to serve the interests of the journal.
