In this paper, we question the use of the notion of performativity, borrowed from Austin, by some sociologists who aspire to understand the way economics shape the social reality. We will emphasize this use distort the Austin way to approach performativity, what explains a major problem of what we call “performativist sociology”: its over-relativism stance, making lower its heuristic value. In a “back to Austin” motion, we would want to redefine performativity of economics by its felicity conditions.

Cet article a pour ambition de questionner l’usage de la notion de performativité, emprunté à Austin, par une frange de la sociologie s’intéressant au rôle des économistes dans la construction de la réalité sociale. Après avoir montré que cet usage dénature l’approche austinienne, et que cela pose problème en ce qu’il mène à un relativisme heuristiquement peu instructif, on tente d’offrir une perspective alternative. Dans un mouvement de retour à Austin, on utilisera le concept de convention à la Lewis afin de penser la performativité par ses conditions de félicité.
