  • Resumen
    • Following the much-discussed oil price downturn, companies like barite supplier Broychim have been forced to reassess their company strategy in order to remain competitive. By reducing prices and staying on top of market changes, Broychim has managed to maintain production rates so far this year.

Broychim claims to have exported more than 609,000 tonnes barite in 2014 and is aiming for 650,000-700,000 tonnes in 2015, sourcing barite crudes from private mines and small artisanal workings that are government controlled.

In terms of drilling location, the Gulf of Mexico is the largest consumer of drilling-grade barite in the world. Assuming that 80-85% of global barite production is consumed as a drilling-mud weighting agent, this suggests that approximately 6.6-7m tpa should be accounted for by oil drilling markets.
