    En 1.962, en pleno comienzo de los años del “desarrollismo” en nuestro país, inmerso entonces en pleno gobierno franquista, una pequeña y casi desconocida editorial con sede en Madrid, la editorial Norte y Sur se planteó la posibilidad de traducir al castellano la obra señera de Ronald Syme, The Roman Revolution, casi treinta años antes de que finalmente lo consiguiera la editorial Taurus. El proyecto de Norte y Sur finalmente no se llevó a término. Se trata, no obstante, de un episodio tan interesante como poco conocido de la historiografía de la historia antigua en España. En este trabajo reconstruimos la intrahistoria del mismo con ayuda de los documentos originales que se encuentran en el archivo editorial de la Oxford University Press.

    In 1962, at the very beginning of the years of «desarrollismo» in our country, at that time immersed in the Franco regime, a small and almost unknown publishing house based in Madrid, «Norte y Sur», considered the possibility of translating into Spanish Ronald Syme’s The Roman Revolution, almost thirty years before Taurus publishing house finally got it. The project by «Norte y Sur» was not finally completed. It is, however, an episode as interesting as little known in the historiography of ancient history in Spain. In this work we reconstruct the intrahistory of the same with the help of the original documents that are located in the editorial archive of the Oxford University Press.
