Non-communicable diseases, also known as NCDs, have now been deemed a global epidemic, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Mining, one of the hazardous occupations in the world, has also been shown to be one of the most at risk, with mine employees experiencing an alarmingly higher number of NCDs compared with the general population.
