In 1958 Tomasi di lampedusa’s The Leopard and sciascia’s Il quarantotto were published. The textual analysis of sciascias’s short story, compared and con-trasted with The Leopard, highlights the different intellectual natures of the two writers, evident in the respective narrative intentions, in the forms and in the style with which both tackle italian unification. Nonetheless, the Prince and the master find common ground in their critical revision of an age, that of italian unification, which was, above all for sicily, one 'without heroes'

Nel 1958 vengono pubblicati Il Gattopardo di Tomasi di lampedusa e Il quarantotto di Sciascia. l’analisi testuale del racconto sciasciano, fatta al controluce del romanzo lampedusiano, evidenzia le differenti fisionomie intellettuali dei due scrittori che si palesano nelle rispettive intenzionalità narrative, nelle forme e nello stile con cui entrambi rivisitano il risorgimento. ciò nonostante il Principe e il maestro si incontrano sul terreno della comune revisione critica di un’epopea, quella risorgimentale, che fu, soprattutto per la Sicilia, 'un’epopea senza eroi'
