  • Resumen
    • This paper studies the life and grant time of patent applications in Canada by using two survival analysis approaches: the Kaplan–Meier estimator and the Cox proportional hazards estimator. The analysis of this paper shows that non-Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) patent applications and more complex patent applications survive longer and need more time to be granted. Moreover, foreign and small entity patent applications survive longer. Being granted has a very significant impact on survival time. Finally, there is a statistically significant difference among International Patent Classification (IPC) main classes in terms of survival time.
