In this article, we discuss the act of male mourning through an example of sculpture from the funerary art collection of the state of São Paulo: the piece Lenda Grega, part of the funerary complex of Trevisoli Family, conceived in 1920 by sculptor Nicola Rollo (1889-1970) and installed in Consolação Cemetery. Often the meaning of death is so inscrutable to those that remain that pain and lamentation are the only possible manifestations: the mourner is chosen as a manifestation of these sentiments. Also called pleurants, they are placed at a particular and transitory point, between life and death. In front of the tombs, leaning in mourning, these men signal death and their sensitivity stresses the most common depictions of masculinity.

No presente artigo, discute-se o ato de prantear do homem por meio de um exemplar escultórico proveniente da arte funerária paulistana: a obra Lenda Grega, parte do complexo tumular da Família Trevisioli, concebido em 1920 pelo escultor Nicola Rollo (1889-1970) e instalado no Cemitério da Consolação. Muitas vezes, o sentido da morte é tão inescrutável para aqueles que ficam que a dor e o lamento são as únicas manifestações possíveis: o pranteador é escolhido como manifestação destes sentimentos. Também chamados pleurants, colocam-se em um lócus particular e transitório, entre a vida e morte. Diante dos túmulos, debruçados em pranteio, estes homens sinalizam a morte e sua sensibilidade tensiona as representações de masculinidade mais habituais.
